What You Carry From Home
In his story, Benjamin's father was gone when he was very young. He barely remembers him. Two things are left to him from his father: the silver chain he wears around his neck, and a handful of stories, the kind that came out slowly in the kitchen, years later, while dinner was cooking. When he heads out on a route he says "I'll be back," and he keeps his word; maybe that insistence on always coming back comes from there. What you carry from home doesn't always weigh much or take up space, but it goes with you everywhere.
