The One Who Always Comes Back
In his story, Benjamin never says goodbye. When he heads out on a route he says "I'll be back," and off he goes. And he comes back. His people call him, half-joking, the one who always comes back, and it's literal: if he says he'll be there, he's there. A word given is a word kept, no ceremony needed; it's his way of loving someone without having to say it out loud. In the portrait he wears a thin silver chain around his neck, the only glint in the whole outfit, and it has its own story too.
