The Chain He Never Takes Off
In his story, the silver chain Benjamin wears is the only thing that breaks up his grey, silver and white clothing. It's thin, simple links, its shine already worn. It was his father's, and he never takes it off, except when working with machinery, when he tucks it away safely so it doesn't catch. If anyone asks about it, he says it was a gift and changes the subject. It's one of those things that tells itself, or doesn't get told at all.
