What do I do if my order arrives damaged?

What is Animal Kinhood?

Animal Kinhood is a series of anthropomorphic animal portraits created by Yago Partal. Each portrait features a real species dressed in clothing that reflects its personality, blending photography, illustration, and artificial intelligence.

How is on-demand production more sustainable?

On-demand production eliminates surplus stock and overproduction. Each product is manufactured only when someone orders it, drastically reducing material waste and the footprint of unsold inventory.

Yago Partal is a visual artist and photographer from Barcelona known for Zoo Portraits (2013), a project that brought his work to international media. Animal Kinhood is the evolution of that artistic exploration.

Ambystoma mexicanum

Working the chinampa means caring for the water where the last axolotl lives.

Endemic exclusively to the canals and chinampas of the Xochimilco lake system, in Mexico City, at 2,240 metres of altitude. It inhabits the muddy beds of cold fresh water (between 6 and 20 °C), among aquatic vegetation such as ahuejote and water lily, in low-current zones. Its historic habitat also included the now-extinct lakes of Chalco and Texcoco.

Moldura y especie

Lo que cuelgas en casa al comprar este producto es, literalmente, una especie En Peligro Crítico según la lista roja de la IUCN. El axolote mexicano (*Ambystoma mexicanum*) ha perdido el 99 % de su población salvaje entre 1998 y 2014, y su único hábitat natural en el mundo está en los canales y chinampas de Xochimilco, al sur de Ciudad de México. Nada más. Un solo municipio. Un solo ecosistema acuático. Ese dato convierte el retrato en algo más cercano a una ficha de museo de historia natural que a una decoración neutra de salón.

Un animal del billete en casa

En 2021, el Banco de México emitió la nueva familia G del billete de 50 pesos. Retiró el retrato histórico de José María Morelos y puso en su lugar, en el anverso, un grabado con Tenochtitlan y, en el reverso, un ecosistema chinampero con el ajolote nadando entre raíces y una garza ahuejote sobrevolando la traza del canal. Desde ese momento, cualquier persona que vive en México o que ha pasado por ahí tiene en la cartera, varias veces al año, un pequeño retrato del mismo animal que aparece en este póster.

La ironía se sostiene sin subrayar: la especie que recorre los bolsillos de un país entero todos los días está a punto de desaparecer del planeta. La factura de 50 pesos que pagas por un café en la Condesa, o por unos tamales de San Gregorio Atlapulco, lleva encima la cara de un animal que vive solo en las chinampas a treinta kilómetros de esa misma cafetería, y que el turismo masivo, la urbanización y la introducción de carpas y tilapias invasoras están empujando a la extinción. El billete no la salva. Colgar este póster enmarcado en casa es acercar la imagen al formato donde sí se mira con calma: la pared.
