Framed poster

An axolotl portrait that arrives mounted and ready for the wall: that's this framed axolotl print. It's Ikal, facing forward, in a red plaid shirt and denim jacket against a plain background, a character from my Animal Kinhood series.

Axolotl.

Ambystoma mexicanum

Working the chinampa means caring for the water where the last axolotl lives.

Endemic exclusively to the canals and chinampas of the Xochimilco lake system, in Mexico City, at 2,240 meters of altitude. It inhabits the muddy beds of cold fresh water (between 6 and 20 °C), among aquatic vegetation such as ahuejote and water lily, in low-current zones. Its historic habitat also included the now-extinct lakes of Chalco and Texcoco.

A portrait that stays

In the image there's an axolotl with pale pink skin, red feathery gills poking out on either side of his head, and a wide mouth curved upward, that half-smile they come with from the factory. He wears the red plaid shirt and the worn blue denim jacket. I created him looking straight ahead, against a plain background: framed and hung, he reads whole from the doorway, with nothing taking up his space.

The one who came back and stayed

That year Ikal helped return eighteen of his own kind to the canal. Only one is still alive, darker than the rest, and he's seen it twice in the same bend. He never told anyone: he wrote down the date and went back to what he was doing. This portrait carries something of that idea — something that comes back to its place and stays — except here the place is your wall. Who Ikal is, where he's from, and what he stands for is in the character's biography.

§ 07What people ask.08 · about POD
  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • It includes an ayous wood frame (1.9 cm thick, from renewable forests), an Acrylite acrylic protective front, and hanging hardware. It is lightweight and arrives ready to hang directly on the wall.
  • AI generates intermediate fragments of the creative process — references, poses and, for wild species, part of the animal's visual base — never the final piece. Yago directs each portrait: researching the species, designing the character, and building the result by hand in Photoshop, layer by layer. The artistic decision is always human.
  • Yes, we ship worldwide. Shipping costs vary by region and product type. You can see the exact cost at checkout before confirming your order.
  • Posters are available in two sizes: 12 x 12 inches (approx. 30 x 30 cm) and 18 x 18 inches (approx. 46 x 46 cm). The square format is part of the series' visual language.
  • Each portrait combines photography, digital illustration, and AI-generated fragments under Yago's artistic direction: AI supplies intermediate material — references, poses, textures — never the final output. The process includes species research, character design, and detailed manual construction — photomontage, light, color, and illustration — built layer by layer in Photoshop.
