Tote bag

A bag for carrying what you don't want to lose: that's a tote. This axolotl tote bag carries Ikal up front, an axolotl facing forward in a red plaid shirt and denim jacket, against a plain background. He's a character from my Animal Kinhood series.

Axolotl.

Ambystoma mexicanum

Working the chinampa means caring for the water where the last axolotl lives.

Endemic exclusively to the canals and chinampas of the Xochimilco lake system, in Mexico City, at 2,240 meters of altitude. It inhabits the muddy beds of cold fresh water (between 6 and 20 °C), among aquatic vegetation such as ahuejote and water lily, in low-current zones. Its historic habitat also included the now-extinct lakes of Chalco and Texcoco.

An axolotl to carry along

On the bag goes Ikal's portrait: an axolotl with pale pink skin, red feathery gills on either side of his head like a crown, and a wide mouth with that upward curve. He wears the red plaid shirt and the well-worn blue denim jacket. I created him facing forward against a plain background: he's recognizable at a glance when you cross the street or head down into the subway, with nothing around to steal his spotlight.

What you decide not to lose

A tote is, in the end, the bag for the things you decide to carry with you: fruit from the market, a book, your keys. It suits Ikal, because he's the type to hold on to what matters — the names his grandmother left him — and to repair things before throwing them out. Carrying his face up front means carrying a bit of that habit of not letting anything get lost. The rest of who he is lives in his biography.

§ 07What people ask.08 · about POD
  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • Animal Kinhood is a series of anthropomorphic animal portraits created by Yago Partal. Each portrait features a real species dressed in clothing that reflects its personality, blending photography, illustration, and artificial intelligence.
  • If you notice a print defect (misaligned colours, stains, missing ink areas), contact us with photos at mail@yagopartal.com. Production defects are resolved with a replacement at no extra cost.
  • Yes. We accept custom commissions of all kinds: pet portraits, corporate projects, and artistic collaborations. Visit the Custom Projects section in the footer for details and contact.
  • Yes. You will receive an email with a tracking number when your order ships from production. If your order ships in multiple packages, you will get a separate tracking number for each one.
  • Open editions (main shop) are on-demand products with no copy limit. Limited editions (the Editions section of the shop) have controlled numbering and premium finishes with gallery-grade materials.
