Matte poster

This axolotl poster is a print ready to frame: an axolotl facing forward, in a red plaid shirt and denim jacket, looking at you calmly from a plain background. This is Ikal, a character from my Animal Kinhood series.

Ambystoma mexicanum

Working the chinampa means caring for the water where the last axolotl lives.

Endemic exclusively to the canals and chinampas of the Xochimilco lake system, in Mexico City, at 2,240 meters of altitude. It inhabits the muddy beds of cold fresh water (between 6 and 20 °C), among aquatic vegetation such as ahuejote and water lily, in low-current zones. Its historic habitat also included the now-extinct lakes of Chalco and Texcoco.

An axolotl who holds your gaze

This print captures only what you can see: an axolotl with pale pink skin, red feathery gills open on either side of his head like a crown, and a wide mouth curved upward, as if something amused him. I created him facing forward against a plain background: on a wall, he doesn't need anything around him. The only warmth of color comes from the gills and the red plaid of the shirt, against the worn blue of the denim.

The face of an inheritance

He lost Tlanextli when he was twenty, and with her went several plant names he'd only half written down. He barely changed anything in the house: he keeps it the way it was, and this print follows that same instinct — holding on to what matters without any fuss. As an art print, the matte finish avoids glare and works on any wall. Ikal is one of a whole family of dressed animals I portray in Animal Kinhood; if you like how this one turns out, there's more in the rest of the collection. I make them myself, Yago Partal.

§ 07What people ask.08 · about POD
  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • Animal Kinhood is a series of anthropomorphic animal portraits created by Yago Partal. Each portrait features a real species dressed in clothing that reflects its personality, blending photography, illustration, and artificial intelligence.
  • Open editions (main shop) are on-demand products with no copy limit. Limited editions (the Editions section of the shop) have controlled numbering and premium finishes with gallery-grade materials.
  • The posters use 189 g/m2 matte paper sourced from Japan, 0.26 mm thick. They are printed with water-based multicolour inkjet, ensuring accurate colours and a smooth, glare-free finish.
  • Yago Partal is a visual artist and photographer from Barcelona known for Zoo Portraits (2013), a project that brought his work to international media. Animal Kinhood is the evolution of that artistic exploration.
  • On-demand production eliminates surplus stock and overproduction. Each product is manufactured only when someone orders it, drastically reducing material waste and the footprint of unsold inventory.
