The principle went back much further, to a garden. At eight, at his grandmother's house, Bruno discovered that if he stayed absolutely still, lizards would climb onto his feet. Forty minutes without moving; he says an hour, he exaggerates. He didn't understand it in words, but he understood something: that staying still is a way of letting the world come closer. That was his first method, and it's lasted him a lifetime.
