This arctic fox T-shirt for kids features Otto, a fox who turns white in winter and brownish in summer, from my Animal Kinhood series. A cold-weather creature with a friendly face, the kind of animal a child ends up claiming as their own.

Here's the fact that hooks kids the most: the Arctic fox doesn't always wear the same coat. In winter it turns completely white to disappear into the snow, and when summer comes and the snow melts, its fur turns greyish brown to blend in with the rock and the soil. It's like having two costumes a year, one for each season. In Otto's portrait you catch him at the point where grey is turning to white, with the cold already close.
An Arctic fox is small, round, and built for real cold, and that cosy look is exactly what appeals to a small child: an animal that looks like a stuffed toy but is completely real and survives brutal winters. When a child wears it and you tell them it changes colour, they want to know everything. If they want to get to know Otto fully, he's in his biography; for the T-shirt, it's enough that they decide this fox belongs to them.
