Fifteen percent more hops. That's how he changed his boss's recipe, without asking, and his boss tried it and told him: "It's good, but it's not mine." This black bear backpack carries Liam on the front, a brewer from West Asheville, from my Animal Kinhood series.

Ursus americanus

I spend seven months asleep without drinking or eating. My body learns before my head does.

Temperate, boreal and subtropical forests of North America, from Alaska and northern Canada to northern Mexico; especially associated with the southern Appalachians (Blue Ridge, Great Smoky Mountains) and Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina.

It's Good, But It's Not Mine

Before he had his own workshop, Liam started as an assistant to Earl, the most seasoned brewer in the city. One day he changed one of his recipes without permission: fifteen percent more hops. Earl tried it, looked at him, and said: "It's good. But it's not mine. If you want to make your own, find yourself a place." He didn't fire him: he opened the door for him. Since then Liam doesn't touch anyone's recipe without being asked. I created him head-on, with no backdrop: on a backpack you take him in at a glance.

An Animal of Long Territories

The black bear moves through huge ranges, tens or hundreds of square kilometers, that overlap without turning into invasions. Liam goes foraging in the Pisgah, more than two hundred thousand hectares of forest twenty minutes from home, which he knows by heart. A backpack is made for that: carrying your day on your back with your arms free, moving from one place to another without hauling things in your hands. On the front he carries his calm face; his whole story — where he comes from, what he carries — is in his biography.

  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • The backpack has a 20-litre capacity (41 x 31 x 14 cm), an interior compartment for 15-inch laptops, a secret rear zippered pocket, and is water-resistant. It supports up to 20 kg.
  • Yago Partal is a visual artist and photographer from Barcelona known for Zoo Portraits (2013), a project that brought his work to international media. Animal Kinhood is the evolution of that artistic exploration.
  • No. No animals participate in or are harmed during the process. The portraits are created combining photography, illustration, and artificial intelligence. They are fictional characters representing real species with respect and dignity.
  • Yes. The backpack has an interior compartment for laptops up to 15 inches. Its dimensions are 41 x 31 x 14 cm with 20-litre capacity, enough for daily use and short trips.
  • AI generates intermediate fragments of the creative process — references, poses and, for wild species, part of the animal's visual base — never the final piece. Yago directs each portrait: researching the species, designing the character, and building the result by hand in Photoshop, layer by layer. The artistic decision is always human.
