I created her facing forward, against a clean background: on a t-shirt she reads at a glance. Yara dreams of starting her own music label, a small one made with care, and she has it all written down in a cloth-bound notebook she's never shown to anyone. She says she'll do it next year, and she repeats that every year, holding on to the idea the way you hold on to a treasure. That cloth-bound notebook tells you more about her than anything else could.

Yara is the kind who cares slowly and for a long time. In her story she sticks with young musicians year after year, without rushing, until they sound the way they deserve to. That's why she suits an everyday t-shirt so well: she's a calm, good animal, the kind that doesn't rattle even when the world shouts around her. Who Yara is lives entirely in her story, and she's part of a family of creatures I make; there are more of them in the rest of the collection.
