Mansa.

Women's t-shirt

Every Saturday morning, before the heat of Maun makes it impossible to stand near the stove, Mansa and her mother Keitumetse knead sorghum bread in the kitchen of their Boseja home. This women's t-shirt of Mansa carries the portrait of that girl — an eight-year-old African bush elephant — printed edge to edge on the fabric. But before the product, the scene. Because what sets this t-shirt apart from any other is that there's a real person behind it, with a name, with a kitchen, with Saturdays.

The real species

African bush elephant.

Loxodonta africana

The stones remember paths you forget to learn.

Savannas, scrubland and open woodland of sub-Saharan Africa, from the Serengeti and Kenya to the Okavango Delta (Botswana), which holds the world's largest concentration of the species. It adapts to very different ecosystems: the arid grasslands of the Kalahari, riverbanks, the edges of gallery forest.

Two hundred

The bread technique comes from Koko, Mansa's paternal grandmother. Shona by origin, from Serowe, four hundred kilometers southeast. Koko knew which stones are good for sharpening, which for grinding, and which are simply beautiful. And she knew how to make sorghum bread in a cast-iron pot over coals: dough kneaded for twenty minutes, pot preheated, low heat. Keitumetse inherited the recipe and repeats it every Saturday with Mansa at her side.

Mansa counts quietly as they knead. One, two, three. Up to two hundred. It isn't a whim: African elephants have a documented cognitive capacity for processing quantities. Mansa does it without knowing she does it by instinct and by memory. Counting is her way of measuring time. Of knowing the dough is ready without looking at a clock. Of staying focused while her hands — still a child's hands, small compared to her mother's — work the mixture against the table surface.

The cast-iron pot is the same one Koko used. It's heavy. Mansa can't lift it alone. Keitumetse sets it on the stove and Mansa tends the fire. The result doesn't always turn out right. Sometimes the crust is too thick, sometimes the center stays raw. It doesn't matter. What matters is that Saturdays smell of sorghum, of coals, and of her mother's hands.

Cotton and portrait

The t-shirt is a women's garment with a full all-over print of Mansa's portrait. The design isn't limited to a panel on the chest: it covers the whole fabric surface, from the sleeves to the sides. The pink sweater with embroidered daisies, the calm eyes, the background — all of it fills the complete space of the garment. No frames. No blank areas.

The technique is direct sublimation onto the fabric. The color penetrates the fiber instead of sitting as a surface layer, which gives it durability through washes and a smooth feel — you don't feel the ink when you run your hand over it. For fabric composition, weight, washing instructions, and construction: the **Fabric, fit, and construction** tab. For measurements by size: **Size guide**.

Every t-shirt is made when you order it. No pre-existing stock, no surplus. Made to order, one by one, and shipped directly. Shipping timelines and return conditions are under **Shipping and returns**.

§ 07What people ask.08 · about POD
  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • The t-shirts are 96% cotton and 4% elastane, weighing 189 g/m2. The fabric is soft with a smooth surface, ideal for all-over printing. They are pilling-resistant and colourfast after washing.
  • No. No animals participate in or are harmed during the process. The portraits are created combining photography, illustration, and artificial intelligence. They are fictional characters representing real species with respect and dignity.
  • Animal Kinhood is a series of anthropomorphic animal portraits created by Yago Partal. Each portrait features a real species dressed in clothing that reflects its personality, blending photography, illustration, and artificial intelligence.
  • AI generates intermediate fragments of the creative process — references, poses and, for wild species, part of the animal's visual base — never the final piece. Yago directs each portrait: researching the species, designing the character, and building the result by hand in Photoshop, layer by layer. The artistic decision is always human.
  • If you notice a print defect (misaligned colours, stains, missing ink areas), contact us with photos at mail@yagopartal.com. Production defects are resolved with a replacement at no extra cost.
