An Animal That Looks Fierce and Isn't

This print captures what you see: an aardwolf with tawny fur streaked in dark markings, wrapped in an ice-blue denim jacket covered in silver studs, with the only warm spot in the whole image being the pink hood peeking out at the collar. I created it facing forward, with a clean background: on a wall it needs nothing around it. The animal looks fearsome and isn't: the aardwolf is the smallest and most harmless of its family, and its whole defense is looking bigger than it really is.

Ants with Helmets

Nala learned it from her grandmother Koko, the village seamstress, one night with a torch at the edge of a field in Limpopo: two eyes under a bush, a crest that flashed up for a second and vanished into a burrow. "Looks big. But it's small, and it doesn't bite. It only eats ants." "Termites, Koko." "Ants with helmets." That's what Animal Kinhood is about, my series of animals with clothes and a trade: here, a tattoo artist from the Highveld. This print lifts her out of her story and puts her on your wall, where the matte finish gives off no glare. There's more of her in her biography.

§ 07What people ask.08 · about POD
  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • Yes. At checkout you can enter a different shipping address from billing. The package arrives white-label with no visible price, so the recipient will not see the cost.
  • Yago Partal is a visual artist and photographer from Barcelona known for Zoo Portraits (2013), a project that brought his work to international media. Animal Kinhood is the evolution of that artistic exploration.
  • Yes. We accept custom commissions of all kinds: pet portraits, corporate projects, and artistic collaborations. Visit the Custom Projects section in the footer for details and contact.
  • Yes, we ship worldwide. Shipping costs vary by region and product type. You can see the exact cost at checkout before confirming your order.
