Mug

This kakapo mug carries the printed portrait of Kiri, a character from my Animal Kinhood series, where animals dress and live like people. It's a ceramic mug for your everyday coffee or tea, and what's on it is a middle-aged kakapo in a tailored jacket, a floral scarf at her neck, and a pearl brooch on the lapel.

Temperate rainforest in New Zealand. Today it survives only on predator-free sanctuary islands — Whenua Hou, Pukenui/Anchor and Hauturu — plus one fenced mainland enclosure.

A Workday That Starts When the Light Goes Out

In her story, Kiri goes out at dusk. She walks down the path to the point, passes the houses where she might be needed, doesn't knock on any door, turns around, and comes back. She carries a small lamp in her bag that she almost never switches on, because she finds her way without it and would struggle to explain how.

Visitors from other islands always arrive at the wrong time. She never tells them so. She simply puts water on to heat and waits for them to work it out themselves, which is her way of being patient with people.

Why the Kakapo Works at Night

There's a reason behind the schedule. The kakapo is a strictly nocturnal parrot: it sleeps by day pressed close to the ground and comes out in the dark, walking, because it's the only parrot in the world that has lost the ability to fly. It's also the heaviest one there is.

Kiri doesn't explain any of this. She simply has breakfast at four in the afternoon, goes out when the light fades, and comes back at dawn. And in her hardback notebook there are whole pages with the year written at the top and nothing below.

  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • Animal Kinhood is a series of anthropomorphic animal portraits created by Yago Partal. Each portrait features a real species dressed in clothing that reflects its personality, blending photography, illustration, and artificial intelligence.
