The borrowed recorder
Isabella was sixteen when a friend lent her a recorder. She went out at night to the canals of Bruges, where she grew up, and recorded the water, the echoes, the dripping under the bridges. With that she earned her first top mark, and understood all at once what she wanted to do with her life. Everything else comes from there: the audio degrees, the sleepless nights fine-tuning other people's sound. A whole life of listening began with a borrowed device and some dark canals. The mug belongs to those nights.
