Isabella set up Nachtwerk, her mastering studio in Ghent, to work when the city goes quiet. It opens at six in the evening and closes at six in the morning, because that's how she's built. A Brussels producer offered her a permanent contract with office hours, and she turned it down without making a drama of it: clocking in at ten in the morning is no use to someone who, at that hour, is heading off to sleep. This t-shirt carries the face of someone who does her best work while everyone else rests.

She didn't start living at night for the job. At eight years old she went down the stairs at three in the morning, following a noise she couldn't name — it was the boiler firing up, but she learned that later — and sat on the third step to wait until she understood it. Night was always her good hour. Today the building she lives in is going to be renovated and the rent is squeezing her, and even so she wouldn't trade her hours for anything.
