Isabella.

Mug

This barn owl mug is for the long nights: Isabella's, a common barn owl from my Animal Kinhood series who works while everyone else sleeps. White ceramic on the outside, black on the inside, like the hour when she listens.

The real species

Barn Owl.

Tyto alba

I can hear it, but I can't name it yet.

Open country with low vegetation for hunting —grassland, marshes, woodland edges, farmland, and the fringes of towns—, from sea level to over 2,000 m; it nests in tree hollows, rock ledges and, very characteristically, in barns, church towers, and lofts

The borrowed recorder

Isabella was sixteen when a friend lent her a recorder. She went out at night to the canals of Bruges, where she grew up, and recorded the water, the echoes, the dripping under the bridges. With that she earned her first top mark, and understood all at once what she wanted to do with her life. Everything else comes from there: the audio degrees, the sleepless nights fine-tuning other people's sound. A whole life of listening began with a borrowed device and some dark canals. The mug belongs to those nights.

Eyes closed

When Isabella listens to a mix, she closes her eyes and stays still until the take ends. Then she listens again. Only then does she say what's too much or what's missing: a sharp peak, a hum, a voice grazing the edge. Her way of being in the world runs through the ear more than the eye. That's why a mug with a black interior suits her so well: it's the darkness she works best in. If you like this barn owl, there's more about her in her biography. I sign it, Yago Partal, in my Animal Kinhood series.

  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • No. No animals participate in or are harmed during the process. The portraits are created combining photography, illustration, and artificial intelligence. They are fictional characters representing real species with respect and dignity.
  • Yes. At checkout you can enter a different shipping address from billing. The package arrives white-label with no visible price, so the recipient will not see the cost.
  • Yes. We accept custom commissions of all kinds: pet portraits, corporate projects, and artistic collaborations. Visit the Custom Projects section in the footer for details and contact.
  • Open editions (main shop) are on-demand products with no copy limit. Limited editions (the Editions section of the shop) have controlled numbering and premium finishes with gallery-grade materials.
  • Yes, we ship worldwide. Shipping costs vary by region and product type. You can see the exact cost at checkout before confirming your order.
