Dehesas of the Iberian Peninsula: expanses of holm oak and cork oak with natural pasture in Extremadura, Salamanca, Andalusia and the Portuguese Alentejo. Density of 0.2 to 0.5 head per hectare.
Here's what hooks kids: the bull comes from the aurochs, a giant wild bull that no longer exists, and it's one of the strongest animals there is. Fernando has all that strength — he's huge, with real horns — but he's one of those who use it to protect, not to scare. A big guy who steps in front when someone small needs him. That mix of strong and good is exactly what a kid tends to love.
A huge, calm bull, with that look of serene strength, is one of those figures a kid loves wearing: it looks like a giant stuffed animal, but it's real. When a kid wears it and you tell them he's as strong as he is good, they want to know everything.
