Togar.

Youth t-shirt

One day Togar will have a voice that carries for miles, but for now he's a Sumatran orangutan infant on a youth t-shirt from my series Animal Kinhood. The portrait of this little one of the canopy — reddish fur, denim overalls, striped shirt — for anyone still growing up.

The voice from the other side of the valley

Some mornings, when the forest is still dark, a long, deep sound arrives from far away: the call of a big male orangutan, one of the wide flanges, who lives in the next valley over. It's the voice that carries farthest in the whole forest — heard from nearly a kilometer and a half off, farther than any other — and it announces, simply, that the big one is there.

Togar goes still when he hears it. He listens until the sound dies away completely, and only then goes back to what he was doing. He knows, without anyone explaining it, that this voice is his horizon: one day he'll be the one who has it, with his big voice and his own patch of forest to roam. For now, when he tries, out comes a tiny little squeak. But it doesn't bother him: he tries again the next day, and the one after, like someone breaking in a size that's still too big.

A map only he carries inside

Togar lives in the Leuser Ecosystem, in the north of Sumatra: one of the last great jungles where the orangutan still has forest to spare to move through. And moving through a forest like that, without getting lost or going hungry, has its trick: you have to carry the whole thing in your head.

That's exactly what Togar is doing, little by little, without realizing he's doing it. He goes storing where each tree stands and at what season it gives food, one corner of the forest after another, until he's put together a huge map that isn't drawn anywhere but inside him. With every passing day, that map is a little bigger.

It's what he'll need when he's grown, when it's his turn to walk his own patch of jungle. That's why this youth t-shirt suits him so well: it portrays an infant still small, one who still comes out with a squeak instead of a big voice, and who is already gathering inside, unhurried, everything he'll need to be grown.

  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • The t-shirts are 96% cotton and 4% elastane, weighing 189 g/m2. The fabric is soft with a smooth surface, ideal for all-over printing. They are pilling-resistant and colourfast after washing.
  • On-demand production eliminates surplus stock and overproduction. Each product is manufactured only when someone orders it, drastically reducing material waste and the footprint of unsold inventory.
  • Yes. We accept custom commissions of all kinds: pet portraits, corporate projects, and artistic collaborations. Visit the Custom Projects section in the footer for details and contact.
  • Open editions (main shop) are on-demand products with no copy limit. Limited editions (the Editions section of the shop) have controlled numbering and premium finishes with gallery-grade materials.
  • Each portrait combines photography, digital illustration, and AI-generated fragments under Yago's artistic direction: AI supplies intermediate material — references, poses, textures — never the final output. The process includes species research, character design, and detailed manual construction — photomontage, light, color, and illustration — built layer by layer in Photoshop.
