I don't shout, I tune. I give half the city a voice and keep my own on the workbench, in a guitar I've spent years not finishing. Someday I'll play it for Carol.

The cold that slips under the door

John's workshop is in Lincoln Park, with windows facing Duluth harbor. For a good part of the year, the cold off Lake Superior slips under the door and doesn't fully leave until well into spring. Inside he works for hours, quiet, while outside the water is frozen or close to it. In a place like that, a hoodie is welcome: it's the garment you keep on all day long, the one that holds off the harbor's damp chill while you work.

An eye that sees the guitar in the board

What makes John good is his eye. He takes a board, holds it up to the light and sees where the grain runs, where the knot is that would split it and where, inside the wood, there's a guitar waiting. It's a hunter's eye set to hunt in maple and ash. That trade calls for hours held still in a cold workshop, looking and measuring before cutting. That's why a hoodie fits him like a glove: it keeps you warm without getting in the way, you forget you're wearing it, and it lets your attention go to the wood and not to the chill.

§ 07What people ask.08 · about POD
  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • If you notice a print defect (misaligned colours, stains, missing ink areas), contact us with photos at mail@yagopartal.com. Production defects are resolved with a replacement at no extra cost.
  • No. No animals participate in or are harmed during the process. The portraits are created combining photography, illustration, and artificial intelligence. They are fictional characters representing real species with respect and dignity.
  • Yago Partal is a visual artist and photographer from Barcelona known for Zoo Portraits (2013), a project that brought his work to international media. Animal Kinhood is the evolution of that artistic exploration.
  • Open editions (main shop) are on-demand products with no copy limit. Limited editions (the Editions section of the shop) have controlled numbering and premium finishes with gallery-grade materials.
  • AI generates intermediate fragments of the creative process — references, poses and, for wild species, part of the animal's visual base — never the final piece. Yago directs each portrait: researching the species, designing the character, and building the result by hand in Photoshop, layer by layer. The artistic decision is always human.
