Matte poster

Yara's matte poster, a black caiman, is an unframed print with a matte, glare-free finish. It arrives rolled, ready to hang however you like. The portrait —the cream jacket, the thin gold chain at the neck, the direct gaze— sits on the paper with no shine to compete.

It's a print to look at up close, with the stillness of the caiman that waits without leaning in. The matte finish kills the window's light and leaves the color glare-free. Printed on demand.

The real species

Black caiman.

Melanosuchus niger

The silence before the pulse is what matters.

The entire Amazon basin (Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Guyana, Suriname, Venezuela, French Guiana), the Orinoco basin and the Pantanal wetlands. It inhabits slow waters, lakes, várzea (seasonal floodplain), and both blackwater and whitewater.

A portrait that listens

The matte poster of Yara enters a room the way she enters the main armchair in the studio: without leaning the body forward, without seeking attention, with the quietness of the black caiman that waits without growing impatient. It's eleven forty-seven at night somewhere in the portrait's inner time. Yara has spent forty minutes on the same second of a master and hasn't moved a fader. The matte paper holds that scene on the wall as if it were a photograph stolen from inside a mastering booth: the cream bomber open, the clean white ribbed-knit sweater, the thin gold chain falling silently on the neck, the gaze that doesn't smile for the camera because it doesn't need to.

Some prints shout. This portrait belongs to the other family. It works as a quiet archive that organizes the room around it, the same craft Yara practices at Estúdio Igapó when a band comes in with too much noise and she simply turns down the monitor until the silence weighs more than the conversation. Hung at home it does the same. People who walk in lower their voices before they know why. The black caiman portrait asks nothing, only holds, and the room settles.

The matte paper and amber light

The 189 g/m² matte paper, with no glossy or satin coating, absorbs light instead of reflecting it, and that changes how this portrait behaves depending on the time of day. In the morning, with natural side light, the cream tones of the bomber and the white of the ribbed-knit sweater stay calm, almost photographic. In the afternoon, with overhead light, the gold of the chain is emphasized without shining. And when the room is lit with a warm lamp, what happens in the control room at Estúdio Igapó happens here: amber enters the scene, the portrait becomes more intimate, Yara's gaze moves a meter closer.

The technique is Giclée printing with pigmented inks, resistant to time, on paper selected to reproduce skin, fabric, and metal without falsifying them. The portrait is signed by Yago Partal as part of Animal Kinhood, the series where wild animals appear dressed as adult people with a history. Yara is number thirty-six in the universe: an Amazonian black caiman, music producer, thirty-three years old. The piece arrives ready to hang, unframed, in five classic sizes that fit any wall without forcing the buyer to redesign the space around it.
