Matte poster

This anglerfish poster carries Naoko Mochizuki, and the anglerfish is that deep-sea fish that goes around with a small light hanging over its head. It is a matte print of the portrait I created for Animal Kinhood, my series of animals who wear clothes and get on with their lives like people. Naoko is a marine claims surveyor in Numazu, on Suruga Bay.

The lamp that is not hers

In her story, she takes a small desk lamp to every survey. She took it off the branch office shelf twenty years ago, the night of her first job on her own, and she has never given it back. She has not asked for one of her own either. The inventory sticker is still on the base, with the branch number and the year, and she sees it every time she switches it on. A new assistant once offered to buy her an identical one out of the materials budget and did not understand why she said no.

What hangs over her head

In the portrait, the filament with the lit esca comes off her forehead and ends in a point of white light. Real anglerfish do not make that light: it comes from bacteria that live inside the bulb and that the fish picks up from the water, one generation after another. In Naoko's life nobody comments on that. What you can see is that she gets home at night and waits until it is completely dark outside before touching the living-room switch.

§ 07What people ask.08 · about POD
  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • No. No animals participate in or are harmed during the process. The portraits are created combining photography, illustration, and artificial intelligence. They are fictional characters representing real species with respect and dignity.
  • Yago Partal is a visual artist and photographer from Barcelona known for Zoo Portraits (2013), a project that brought his work to international media. Animal Kinhood is the evolution of that artistic exploration.
  • Posters are available in two sizes: 12 x 12 inches (approx. 30 x 30 cm) and 18 x 18 inches (approx. 46 x 46 cm). The square format is part of the series' visual language.
  • Yes. You have 14 calendar days to withdraw, with no need to give a reason (TRLGDCU arts. 102-108). Return the product unused and in its original condition; return shipping is at your expense and any loss of value from handling beyond inspection is deducted (art. 108.2). Your statutory guarantee of conformity also remains fully in force: any product arriving damaged or with a defect is replaced or refunded at no cost. Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com.
  • Open editions (main shop) are on-demand products with no copy limit. Limited editions (the Editions section of the shop) have controlled numbering and premium finishes with gallery-grade materials.
