What He Learned From a Dispute Over a Plot of Land
I created him face-on, against a plain background: a lemur with a black muzzle, amber eyes, and a blue shirt, readable at a glance on a t-shirt. What doesn't fit on the cotton is his method. In his story, at twenty-seven, he mediated a dispute over the boundary of a plot: one family had extended their land by a few meters, and with that had cut off the other's access to water. What struck him most was that the side with more land spoke low and slow, and that calm carried more weight than any shouting.
