European hare.

Lepus europaeus

A well-laid hedge holds for thirty winters. Hurry doesn't hold for one.

Open fields, grasslands and farmland of continental Europe and Great Britain, almost always bordered by hedges, field boundaries and small copses it uses as daytime cover. It also adapts to moorland, salt marshes, airfields and mountain areas up to 2,800 meters in altitude.

Where the Branch Will Split

This print captures what you see: a hare with a calm gaze, the plum herringbone waistcoat and the single point of warmth in the jumper's mustard. I created her facing forward with a plain background: on a wall she asks nothing of what's around her. What doesn't fit on the paper is her trade: in her story, Olwen lays living hedges by hand, and she learned from Emrys, the valley's senior hedge-layer, where the branch will split without killing the hedge. I tell you that winter knowledge separately, in her biography.

The Series, and Why on the Wall

With Animal Kinhood I've spent years portraying dressed animals, with the trades of people who rise early and work: here, a hare who lays the living hedges of a Welsh valley while it's still dark out. Olwen is one of them, and this print takes her out of her story and puts her in your home. As an art print, the matte finish gives no glare, so it works on any wall, on a desk, or in a hallway you pass through. If you like how it looks, there are more critters in the rest of the collection, all signed by me, Yago Partal.

  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • On-demand production eliminates surplus stock and overproduction. Each product is manufactured only when someone orders it, drastically reducing material waste and the footprint of unsold inventory.
  • Yago Partal is a visual artist and photographer from Barcelona known for Zoo Portraits (2013), a project that brought his work to international media. Animal Kinhood is the evolution of that artistic exploration.
  • Each portrait combines photography, digital illustration, and AI-generated fragments under Yago's artistic direction: AI supplies intermediate material — references, poses, textures — never the final output. The process includes species research, character design, and detailed manual construction — photomontage, light, color, and illustration — built layer by layer in Photoshop.
