Tote bag

Medicine, a car battery, three kilos of rice: this mandrill tote bag carries Ndong's portrait, a mandrill who spends his whole shift hauling errands that aren't his own. It's from my Animal Kinhood series, where animals dress and live like people, and it serves exactly the same purpose he'd use it for: fitting in whatever the day calls for.

Tropical lowland rainforest across west-central Africa: southern Cameroon, mainland Equatorial Guinea, Gabon — home by far to the largest population — and the southwest of the Republic of the Congo. It favors primary forest and dense ginger thickets, and also turns up in forest-savanna mosaics like those of Lopé.

Lined Up in Drop-Off Order

In his story, Ndong drives the local that crosses Gabon, and behind the cab seat he piles up whatever people hand him: medicine for a house in Ndjolé, a battery someone needs in Booué, a package a woman left him on the Owendo platform for a relative he doesn't know at all. He lines them up in drop-off order, so he doesn't have to search for anything at three in the morning. Nobody pays him for it, and nobody has ever asked him to in writing.

The Stops With No Sign

Between Abanga and Ndjolé there are places with no platform and no name on the schedule. People stand at the edge of the track with a kerosene lamp or a phone flashlight, and he stops. He waits while they climb aboard with their bundles, counts who's gotten on, and pulls away. Mandrills, by the way, carry their food in pouches in their cheeks that reach down the sides of their neck: they load up fast and eat later somewhere else.

§ 07What people ask.08 · about POD
  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • Animal Kinhood is a series of anthropomorphic animal portraits created by Yago Partal. Each portrait features a real species dressed in clothing that reflects its personality, blending photography, illustration, and artificial intelligence.
  • Yago Partal is a visual artist and photographer from Barcelona known for Zoo Portraits (2013), a project that brought his work to international media. Animal Kinhood is the evolution of that artistic exploration.
  • Since products are made on demand, different items may be manufactured at different facilities. Posters, mugs, and backpacks are often shipped separately. Each package has its own tracking number.
  • Yes, we ship worldwide. Shipping costs vary by region and product type. You can see the exact cost at checkout before confirming your order.
  • Wipe with a damp cloth for surface stains. If machine washing is needed, use cold water and a gentle cycle. As synthetic textiles, washing may release microfibres; use a wash bag if possible.
