Hrafn.

Matte poster

A raven poster to hang somewhere you can look at closely: the portrait of Hrafn, a postman in an Icelandic valley from my Animal Kinhood series, where the animals dress and live like people. Black plumage with a blue sheen, an amber eye and a greyish-green work jacket.

The real species

Common raven.

Corvus corax

If the pass opens, I go up. If it doesn't, I go up tomorrow.

An extreme generalist: boreal forest, coast, steppe, mountain, Arctic tundra and desert across almost the whole northern hemisphere. In Iceland it is a year-round resident, even in midwinter, on sea cliffs, in fjords and around the edges of towns.

What the Landslide Left Behind

A few years ago the hillside came down on the village after days of rain, and the whole place had to be evacuated. Things kept turning up out of the mud: an earring, a key, a little plastic soldier, a ring with no name inside it. Whatever someone claimed got given back. The rest ended up in an old baking tray, in the corrugated-iron shed behind his house, sorted by stretch of road even though nobody asked him to. Hrafn knows exactly which bend each object came from. He still hasn't given a single one back.

Two and a Quarter Kilos of Bird

The common raven is the heaviest songbird in the world: the largest weigh around 2.25 kilos, more than any other songbird reaches. That's what gives it the broad head and the thick beak, which from a distance look like they belong to something bigger. Hrafn has the route nobody wants: in winter it depends on the Fjarðarheiði pass being open, the only road connecting his fjord to the rest of the island, which some years stays closed three weeks running. When it opens, he goes up.

§ 07What people ask.08 · about POD
  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • Yes. At checkout you can enter a different shipping address from billing. The package arrives white-label with no visible price, so the recipient will not see the cost.
  • Yes. We accept custom commissions of all kinds: pet portraits, corporate projects, and artistic collaborations. Visit the Custom Projects section in the footer for details and contact.
  • No. No animals participate in or are harmed during the process. The portraits are created combining photography, illustration, and artificial intelligence. They are fictional characters representing real species with respect and dignity.
  • The posters use 189 g/m2 matte paper sourced from Japan, 0.26 mm thick. They are printed with water-based multicolour inkjet, ensuring accurate colours and a smooth, glare-free finish.
  • If you notice a print defect (misaligned colours, stains, missing ink areas), contact us with photos at mail@yagopartal.com. Production defects are resolved with a replacement at no extra cost.
