Matte poster

A black beanie with a white skull embroidered on it, two enormous amber eyes and dark ears that do not fit under the beanie: that is the first thing you get from this aye-aye poster. It is a matte print from Animal Kinhood, my series of portraits where the animals dress and live like people, and the one with the skull is called Stan: black leather jacket with spiked studs on the shoulders and a red-and-black plaid shirt.

The real species

Aye-aye.

Daubentonia madagascariensis

Put it under Solofo's name, I was slow today.

Lowland tropical rainforest along the east coast of Madagascar and dry deciduous forest in the west and northwest, in a distribution fragmented into pockets: Masoala, Nosy Mangabe, Mananara Nord —where Aye-Aye Island, or Île Roger, works as a semi-wild sanctuary—, Daraina in the far north, and populations further south such as Ranomafana. It is endemic to Madagascar and lives nowhere else.

A Car in the Warehouse Yard

All it takes is a car pulling into the yard. The first time he was fifteen: the foreman asked him, with no rudeness and no explanation, to stay on the other side of the scales until the visit was over. He spent the whole time arranging chests that nobody needed arranged, hearing the buyer from back there asking about moisture and about grades. Now nobody has to ask him: he hears the engine, drops whatever he is doing and takes himself round the back.

Every Page Carries Two Numbers

Every page of his tally notebook carries one number crossed out with two lines and another written over it. The one underneath is his; the one on top belongs to his cousin Solofo, who works in the same crew and goes slower. He wrote the first page like that at seventeen and has not missed a day since. Solofo gets paid for those rows and buys the rice for both of them with the money. Two seasons and they have never discussed it. Outside the two of them, nobody can read it.

§ 07What people ask.08 · about POD
  • Each product is made to order when you place your purchase. There is no pre-made stock or overproduction. A specialised production partner prints, cuts, and prepares it specifically for you.
  • It depends on two things: which piece it is and where it goes. Posters, the mug, the tote and the backpack ship from Europe: 4-7 business days to Europe, 2-4 to the UK, 2-6 to the USA and Canada, 6-22 to the rest of the world. T-shirts and the sweatshirt are made in the United States, so they take considerably longer to reach Europe: 9-25 business days, 7-10 to the UK, 4-10 to the USA and Canada, 5-17 to the rest of the world. Every figure already includes making the piece, since each one is produced when you order it. You will see the exact date for your shipment at checkout.
  • Contact us at mail@yagopartal.com with your order number and clear photos of the damage (include packaging). We will review your case and offer a solution as soon as possible, either replacement or refund.
  • Animal Kinhood is a series of anthropomorphic animal portraits created by Yago Partal. Each portrait features a real species dressed in clothing that reflects its personality, blending photography, illustration, and artificial intelligence.
  • Posters are available in two sizes: 12 x 12 inches (approx. 30 x 30 cm) and 18 x 18 inches (approx. 46 x 46 cm). The square format is part of the series' visual language.
  • If you notice a print defect (misaligned colours, stains, missing ink areas), contact us with photos at mail@yagopartal.com. Production defects are resolved with a replacement at no extra cost.
  • The posters use 189 g/m2 matte paper sourced from Japan, 0.26 mm thick. They are printed with water-based multicolour inkjet, ensuring accurate colours and a smooth, glare-free finish.
  • Yago Partal is a visual artist and photographer from Barcelona known for Zoo Portraits (2013), a project that brought his work to international media. Animal Kinhood is the evolution of that artistic exploration.
