A trade that works for fifteen years from now
Olwen is a hedgelayer, a winter trade. She bends small trees almost to the ground without killing them, so the hedge grows back thicker and holds for another forty years. It's a rare craft. A craft of hands and patience.
I mention it because it explains the angle of this piece. In her story, the hedges she laid fifteen years ago are now at their best; she stops by to see them, the way you'd visit someone. Her answer to a world in a hurry is to make things so well it would be a shame to take them down. That's the bar.
