Backpack
The backpack carries the portrait of Gavino, a long-eared bat watchmaker from my Animal Kinhood series, where the animals dress and live like people. Head-on, with the bow tie and the herringbone vest, on a backpack for everyday or for heading up into the hills.

A stopped watch isn't dead. Most of the time it's just lost its pulse for a moment.
Endemic exclusively to Sardinia; Mediterranean forests of holm oak and cork oak on limestone terrain, with refuges in inland caves (Supramonte, Gennargentu).
His own kind, the Sardinian long-eared bats, were always few: families from the inland caves, from the mountains of Oliena and Dorgali, up toward the Gennargentu — a people you could cover in a single weekend. Each summer the fires climb the slopes above the caves where they breed and scatter whole families. Gavino doesn't talk much about this; he carries it inside.
