Dolma is twelve and lives in the hills of Darjeeling, in the Himalayas. Before she does anything, she looks: she climbs the big cedar before dawn, wrapped in a blanket, and from up there the world falls into order. She draws each wild panda by the rings on its tail to know none is missing, and warns by bending branches instead of shouting.
