Birdie.

Birdie is a penguin boy at the End of the World Station in Ushuaia. While he waits for the train he counts the people on the platform with his finger, under his breath, and can't settle until he knows they're all there. He gathers the ones who are cold, knows each of them by voice, and keeps a tin full in case someone arrives freezing.
